Overview
Historic England lists a church of the eleventh or twelfth century through the fifteenth, with the tower partly rebuilt in 1706, the chancel rebuilt in 1740, and the nave and transepts probably largely rebuilt in 1774 for the Earls of Litchfield, then restored and the chancel remodelled in 1851 (NHLE 1251447; listed 27 August 1957). The fabric is coursed squared limestone with ashlar dressings, part-roughcast rubble, and sheet-metal and Stonesfield-slate roofs. Lead rainwater heads are dated 1774. The listing records a series of monuments including Lee tombs in the chancel. National Churches Trust notes monuments to the Earls of Litchfield and Viscounts Dillon of Ditchley Park, including Georgian work by Henry Keene and William Tyler.
