Overview
Historic England dates the church to the late twelfth, early thirteenth, fourteenth and eighteenth centuries, restored in the nineteenth. The plan is an aisled nave, chancel, transepts, north and south porches, vestry and south-west tower. The chancel has ranges of lancets, a triple-lancet east window, a blocked priest’s door and an eighteenth-century vestry. The RCHME noted the extent and quality of the twelfth- and thirteenth-century fabric, including the continued use of round-headed arches into the thirteenth century, and suggested an earlier nave lengthened westwards about 1180–90, which would explain the tower’s south-west position.
Interior features recorded in the listing and HER include a three-bay nave arcade, a double piscina with detached shafts and dog-tooth, and fine roll-moulded east-window heads. The church was listed Grade I on 23 May 1967 (NHLE 1040232).
