# All Saints, Northampton

All Saints is a Grade I parish church on George Row in the centre of Northampton, in the Diocese of Peterborough. The present church was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1675 and consecrated in 1680.

## Overview

Historic England records medieval fabric in the western tower, which survived the fire, together with a fourteenth-century crypt. The rebuilt church of 1680 is attributed in the list description to Henry Jones of Northampton; Northamptonshire HER and later accounts associate the work with Henry Bell of King's Lynn and Edward Edwards, appointed as surveyors after Charles II granted timber and a share of the town's rebuilding fund. The plan is a square nave with a dome and lantern over a Greek-cross of segmental vaults on four Ionic columns, with chancel and chapels to the east.

A wide eight-column portico was finished in 1701; John Hunt's statue of Charles II was placed on it in 1712. The listing notes ornate plaster ceilings and a Corporation Pew dated 1680. The top of the medieval tower was refaced in 1928. Wikipedia records later restorations and the church's continuing civic ceremonies on Oak Apple Day.
