# All Saints, Moreleigh

All Saints is a Grade I parish church at Moreleigh, Devon, in the Diocese of Exeter. The listing includes the Fishacre tomb adjoining the south transept.

## Overview

Historic England records twelfth- and/or early thirteenth-century fabric in nave and chancel, a late thirteenth-century south transept, a probably early fourteenth-century west tower, a fifteenth-century south aisle and a seventeenth-century porch, with restorations in 1877, 1880, 1898 and 1904. The fabric is shale rubble with some quartz and local limestone; windows and dressings are of Beerstone, granite and other igneous stone, under slate roofs. Plan: nave and chancel in one, south transept, narrow south aisle, west tower and south porch.

The twelfth-century font and a rector recorded in 1264 show an early church here. About 1279 Sir Peter de Fishacre was ordered by the Pope to build a church at Moreleigh as penance for killing the parson of Woodleigh; the late thirteenth-century south transept is associated with him, and his tomb projects below the south window. A fine seventeenth-century plaster barrel vault covers the chancel and the east bay of the nave. Furnishings include an eighteenth-century pulpit and sounding board, Royal Arms of 1714, and three fifteenth-century bells.
