Overview
The present church is the third on the site; a church here is recorded from 1309. St Aubyn (1815–1875), a cousin of the St Aubyn family of St Michael’s Mount, designed a Decorated building with nave, aisles, an apsidal chancel, and a tall west bellcote. The listing notes four-bay Portland stone arcades, an arch-braced roof, numbered pitch-pine pews, and a granite font in Norman style. Almost all windows have coloured glass; the south aisle includes a window depicting the construction of a church to J. Piers St Aubyn himself. The listing calls it one of St Aubyn’s more successful buildings. Maintenance was carried out between 1986 and 1992. The hymn-writer Henry Francis Lyte (1793–1847), author of “Abide with Me”, is associated with Marazion, though the present fabric post-dates him.
