Overview
A church at Dicton is recorded in Domesday Book. Historic England dates the present building to the early to mid fifteenth century with twelfth-century remains, restored in 1849 and 1875 by W. Perkin and Son for the Revd J. W. Geldart. The listing describes coursed squared limestone with lead and graduated stone slate roofs: a three-stage west tower with octagonal spire, three-bay nave with north and south aisles and a central south porch, and a three-bay chancel.
The tower has full-height diagonal buttresses, a battlemented parapet, gargoyles and plain pinnacles. Wikipedia records the spire as about 100 feet (30.5 m) high. Stained glass is Victorian. Patronage passed through the Roos family of Ingmanthorpe until the Reformation; in 1794 it was purchased by James Geldart.
