# All Saints, Kingsdon

All Saints is a Grade II* Church of England parish church on Top Street, Kingsdon, Somerset, in the Diocese of Bath and Wells: a cruciform village church of lias and Ham stone with a fifteenth-century west tower.

## Overview

Historic England records an Anglican parish church of thirteenth-century origins with later modifications, restored in 1869 and 1906. The fabric is local grey lias, cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings and stone slate roofs between coped gables. The plan is four-cell and cruciform, with a north-east vestry and organ chamber, south porch, and a west tower that replaced an earlier north tower. The Victoria County History notes a nave of twelfth-century origin, a thirteenth-century mention of the church in 1242, a fourteenth-century chancel, and a fifteenth-century west tower that superseded a tower over the north chapel. The listing describes a tall panelled fifteenth-century tower arch, an early seventeenth-century panelled pulpit (probably 1627), and a font with a tulip bowl, probably thirteenth-century.

The north chapel was formerly the base of the earlier tower. Memorials include a brass to rector Johanes Dotin (d.1561) and a late thirteenth-century stone effigy in the north transept, possibly Brian de Gouvis. The church is usually open daily.
