# All Saints, Holdenby

All Saints is a Grade II* redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, standing remote beside the grounds of Holdenby House, Northamptonshire, after Sir Christopher Hatton moved the village in the 1570s–80s to make room for his mansion.

## Overview

Historic England lists a fourteenth- and nineteenth-century church restored by Sir G. G. Scott in 1868, of lias ashlar with a plain fishscale tile roof: aisled nave, chancel and west tower. The nineteenth-century chancel, to the design of Sir Henry Dryden of Canons Ashby, has lancets with gabled buttresses, a triple-lancet east window and an organ-chamber projection. The south aisle is probably fourteenth-century, restored in 1868, with reticulated tracery; the north aisle has fourteenth-century square-headed windows. The interior has a fourteenth-century three-bay nave arcade with octagonal piers. An incised alabaster slab commemorates William Holdenby (d.1490) and his wife. Chancel stalls of about 1720 and a sixteenth-century screen, said to have come from Holdenby House around 1700, are among the fittings. Wikipedia records that the church was declared redundant in 1972 after the parish was united with East Haddon.

The church is open daily from April to September, and at weekends in winter.
