# All Saints, Hilton

All Saints is the Grade I parish church of Hilton, Dorset, a fifteenth- and sixteenth-century church that reuses fabric from nearby Milton Abbey, in the Diocese of Salisbury.

## Overview

The RCHME and Historic England record a church of possible twelfth-century origin (attested by a square twelfth-century font and fragments of twelfth-century ornament). The ashlar west tower and south porch are late fifteenth-century; the porch has a stone fan vault. In the sixteenth century the nave, south aisle and chancel were rebuilt and a north aisle added. The north aisle wall, of six bays with stepped buttresses and gargoyles, is reputedly fifteenth-century work reset from Milton Abbey. Date stones of 1569 mark the widening of the south aisle. The chancel was restored and a vestry added in the nineteenth century.

In the tower are two fifteenth-century painted wood panels of four Apostles, also from Milton Abbey. Other fittings include a pulpit made of reused seventeenth-century panelling and a stone sundial dated 1690. The church was listed Grade I on 14 July 1955 (NHLE 1118613), in the parish of Hilton and Ansty.
