# All Saints, Gwynfe

All Saints is the Grade II parish church in the centre of Gwynfe (Capel Gwynfe), Carmarthenshire, in the Diocese of St Davids. Cadw lists it as an ornate late nineteenth-century church with unusual interior detail, notably a fine tiled reredos.

## Overview

Cadw records an Anglican parish church of 1898-99 designed by E. H. Bruton of Cardiff and built by Daniel Price of Llangadog at a cost of £1,955. St Vincent Peel of Danyrallt laid the foundation stone and gave the pulpit. The previous church of 1812 survives nearby as the former church hall. Fabric is rock-faced squared red Sawdde sandstone with grey Forest of Dean stone dressings and a slate roof: nave and chancel under a single roof, a south-west porch-tower and a north-east vestry, in free Perpendicular Gothic. The west end has a stepped mid-buttress, two traceried two-light windows and a small rose window.

The broad interior has plastered walls and five-sided roofs, the nave open-rafter and the chancel panelled. Fittings include a plain octagonal font, an ornate ashlar pulpit by Clarke of Llandaff with pink alabaster panels, pitch-pine stalls and a full-width tiled reredos with the Welsh text Myfi yw bara y bywyd (I am the bread of life). The five-light east window of 1899, by Robert Newbery, shows the Annunciation, the Good Shepherd and the Nativity, in memory of I. C. B. Lewis of Gwynfe House.
