Overview
Historic England dates the church to 1875: a three-bay nave with lean-to south aisle and gabled porch, a two-bay chancel, and a vestry to the north, in pitch-faced stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. A tall octagonal wooden bellcote with traceried sides and a slender fleche sits on the nave. The interior has a three-bay south arcade on short octagonal piers and scissor-braced roofs. The listing records a carved stone pulpit of 1899 in memory of Fitzgerald Thomas Wintour and an oak memorial to Captain Charles John Wintour RN, killed at Jutland in 1916.
The parish history states that John Kaye gave the site, W. B. Beaumont of Bretton Hall met half the £2,300 cost, and Bishop Bickersteth of Ripon consecrated the church in 1875. NCT and the parish name Edward Hughes as architect (design 1871). Villagers had previously worshipped at All Hallows, High Hoyland.
