# All Saints, Cawthorne

All Saints is a Grade II* parish church on Church Lane, Cawthorne, South Yorkshire. Historic England dates the fabric to the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, with a restoration and enlargement of 1875–80 by Bodley and Garner.

## Overview

The listing describes ashlar walls except the north chapel of coursed squared rubble, under stone slate roofs: a two-stage fifteenth-century Perpendicular west tower with diagonal buttresses and pinnacles, a three-bay nave, north and south aisles with porches, a two-bay chancel and chapels. The late thirteenth-century north chapel has small lancets and a two-bay arcade to the chancel; an eleventh-century cross head is built into its east wall. Interior arcades stand on round piers.

A church at Cawthorne is recorded in Domesday. The Spencer-Stanhope family of Cannon Hall largely financed Bodley's work. Glass includes a north-chapel lancet attributed to Morris and Company and a west window designed by Roddam Spencer Stanhope. Parish accounts also note Pre-Raphaelite panels, a Wordsworth and Maskell organ, and Anglo-Saxon cross fragments in the church and churchyard.
