All Saints, Buckland

All Saints is a Grade II* parish church on Peggs Lane, Buckland, Buckinghamshire, in the Diocese of Oxford.

Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries, heavily restored in the nineteenth century. The fabric is flint with some clunch and mostly nineteenth-century limestone dressings, with a tiled chancel roof. The plan comprises a west tower, nave and north aisle, chancel, and a nineteenth-century south porch (stone below, timber-framed above). The late-thirteenth-century north arcade has three bays with circular piers and alternating octagonal and circular capitals. The nave roof is fifteenth-century with traceried spandrels. The Royal Commission noted that the chancel, nave and north aisle were built apparently late in the thirteenth century, and that the west tower was almost completely rebuilt in the nineteenth century using old materials. Local church recording attributes the 1869 restoration, including a new chancel roof and organ chamber, to George Devey, and the 1893 tower rebuild to W. F. Taylor. Fittings include a thirteenth-century circular scalloped font of Aylesbury type.
