# All Saints, Boughton Aluph

All Saints is a Grade I parish church on Church Lane in Boughton Aluph, near Ashford in Kent, in the Diocese of Canterbury and the parish of Boughton Aluph and Eastwell.

## Overview

Historic England records a thirteenth-century chancel and chapel, otherwise fourteenth-century fabric with fifteenth-century east windows, seventeenth-century porches, and a restoration of 1878. The church is flint and rubble with rubble and ashlar dressings and brick porches and buttresses. The plan is nave, aisles, transepts, chancel, north-east chapel, crossing tower with a prominent two-stage stair turret, and north and south porches.

The west and north transept windows are of the same fourteenth-century curvilinear design, of four lights with a cinquefoil over. The north chapel has thirteenth-century lancets. The chancel east window is five-light fifteenth-century Perpendicular; the chapel east window is four-light Perpendicular. The west door sits in a fourteenth-century roll-moulded surround. Local tradition holds that a man named Adulphus built the church in the thirteenth century to replace a Saxon church, and that Sir Thomas Aldon enlarged it in the fourteenth century. The building hosts the Stour Music Festival and stands on a former pilgrims' route.
