# All Saints, Barton Stacey

All Saints is a Grade II* parish church at the crossroads in Barton Stacey, Hampshire, in the Diocese of Winchester and the Benefice of Bright Waters.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, restored in 1877. It began as a Norman two-cell church, given north and south aisles about 1180; two arches on round pillars remain. Thirteenth-century eastward extensions continued the arcade with octagonal columns and a short chancel. The eastern bay opens onto transepts. Walls are flint with stone dressings under a tiled roof, with lancets and Perpendicular windows.

The chief feature is a western tower of about 1610, set into the end of the nave, in Perpendicular style with a castellated parapet and an octagonal stair turret within one of two massive diagonal buttresses. A south porch belongs to the same late phase. Inside are a Purbeck marble font of the second period, with a square arcaded bowl on a central drum and four columns; medieval encaustic tiles in the sanctuary; a seventeenth-century altar table with carved Flemish figures; and commandment boards in the tower. A church at Barton Stacey is mentioned in Domesday Book. A key is available from the village shop.
