# All Hallows, Whitchurch

All Hallows is a Grade II* parish church on Church Street in Whitchurch, Hampshire, in the Diocese of Winchester and the parish of Whitchurch with Tufton with Litchfield.

## Overview

Historic England records a Norman and Perpendicular church whose present appearance is largely the restoration of 1866 by Benjamin Ferrey. The plan is a four-bay nave with wide north and south aisles, chancel, west tower and south porch. The south arcade has pointed arches on cylindrical Norman columns; the north arcade has shafted Perpendicular columns on older square bases, the two western bases original. The tower base is fifteenth-century, with a timber newel stair and seventeenth-century alterations above; the pointed tower arch is earlier. The exterior is Victorian Early English, with lancets, plate tracery and Geometrical windows in the aisle and chancel gables. Walls are flint and stone rubble with stone dressings and shallow buttresses; the tower is rendered, with steep tile roofs and a shingled broach spire. The porch is half-glazed timber-framing on a stone plinth.

Fittings include a fifteenth-century octagonal font, brasses to Sir Richard Brooke (d.1593) and Elizabeth his wife, and limestone effigies of Thomas Brooke (d.1612) and Susanna on a later altar tomb. Frishburga's stone is a tenth-century arch-headed fragment with a bust in a recess.
