Overview
St Matthew’s Church is an active Anglican parish church located in Buckley, Flintshire, Wales. It was built in 1821-22 and is a Grade II* listed building. The church underwent significant reconstruction between 1898 and 1904, resulting in its current Gothic architectural style. The interior features fixtures and furnishings designed by Douglas and Minshull, including wooden furniture executed by Guest and Wardle of Chester and carved work by Herbert Reed of Exeter.
The church also houses murals depicting the beatitudes, stained glass windows by Henry Holiday, and a two-manual organ built in 1905 by John Bishop & Sons of London. The churchyard includes a timber-framed lychgate and a Calvary monument erected in 1921 to commemorate the fallen soldiers of World War I.
Churchyard House, designed by Douglas and Minshull in 1898, is also located on the premises.
